COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Energy says that the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery might once again be closed down from the first week of January since the country would run out of CRUDE oil for refining.

It usually takes 90 days to order and import CRUDE oil into the country, however, the Ministry says that the process was delayed due to the recent forex crisis in the country.

Although the Ministry stated that an order for CRUDE oil has been placed, it is due to arrive in Sri Lanka on 25th of January.

Tenders have been called for to obtain two alternative varieties of CRUDE oil as a replacement to the CRUDE oil that is currently in use at the oil refinery.

The Ministry of Energy added that if those two varieties can be obtained through the tenders, there will be no necessity to shut down the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery once again.
