COLOMBO (News 1st); The responsibility of the Government is to save people from the current economic plight, says Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake.
Speaking during a media briefing held in Colombo on Sunday (19), Attanayake stated that the people of the country have been severely impacted by the milk powder shortage while the shortages of other essential items in the market has increased threefold.
Moreover, MP Attanayake stated that he feels that this increase will be more notable during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, as the means of income of the people of Sri Lanka have not changed in the face of inflation and the Rupee depreciation.
” The people of this country are close to needing to push a wheelbarrow of money to purchase goods in the future,” he said.
Speaking further, the Parliamentarian said that the people of the country might even face the fate of other countries that had their economies completely collapsing at one point.
“Therefore, the Government needs to understand their responsibility. their responsibility is to save the people from this plight,” he added.
