Fertilizer aboard 'Hippo Spirit' sold to another country: Agriculture Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Agriculture says that the rejected organic fertilizer on board the Chinese ship, 'Hippo Spirit' has been sold to another country.

According to the sources from the Ministry, a metric ton of the fertilizer has been sold for about 600 USD.

However, the Ministry still has to pay for the relevant organic fertilizer consignment.

Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe stated that Sri Lanka should still be given a consignment of fertilizer subject to the technical committee recommendations.

Prof. Jayasinghe added that the country should receive 96 metric tons of fertilizer subject to the proper procurement process.
