COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Administrative Services Union says that they oppose the decision taken to increase the retirement age of public servants to 65 years.

Its Chairman, Rohana de Silva stated that the Finance Ministry officials had not consulted with his union or any other public service union before making this decision.

Accordingly, a special committee has been appointed to study the situation regarding the increase in the retirement age and submit a report to the Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, he said.

De Silva also said that his association had requested that the retirement age be reduced to 62 years.
