COLOMBO (News 1st); The University Grants Commission (UGC) says that all university students will be summoned back to Universities to engage in academic studies from January if the newest OMICRON variant does not pose a large risk.

Its Chairman, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga stated that 25% of the student population has already been summoned back to Universities.

He also said that due to the presence of more than 3,000 students in the dormitories of some universities, students and professors would be at risk of contracting the virus if they visited the University premises.
