Lecturers likely to lose EPF for incomplete doctorates

COLOMBO (News 1st); The The University Grants Commission (UGC) says that it will not provide the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) to University Lecturers who have obtained State funds for doctoral degrees but have not completed them.

Chairman of the UGC Prof. Sampath Amaratunge stated that some University Lecturers have not completed their doctoral degrees as of yet, even after spending State funds of over Rs. 100,000.

Prof. Amaratunge mentioned that the relevant amounts will be deducted from their final EPF drawings post-retirement.

Adding that some of these lecturers have already retired, Prof. Amaratunge also stated that there are around 12,000 University Lecturers in the country.
