CMC launches food safety inspections

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has launched safety inspections at food outlets in Colombo city, in line with the upcoming festive season. "Six teams of Public Health Inspectors have been assigned to conduct safety inspection under the supervision of the Medical Officers of Health covering Colombo-North, Central Colombo, Borella, Colombo-East and Colombo-West," Dr. Ruwan Wijeyamuni, the Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipality told News 1st on Saturday (Dec. 11). According to Dr. Ruwan Wijeyamuni, all Five-star Hotels, Restaurants, and other food outlets in Colombo city will be inspected to ensure the safety of food. Legal action will be instituted against food outlets that violate the Food Act, he emphasized. "The general public can lodge complaints in this regard via the hotline, 011 267 6161, and the authorities will take the relevant action within 30 to 45 minutes," Dr. Ruwan Wijeyamuni, the Chief Medical Officer of Colombo noted.
