COLOMBO (News 1st); Environmentalist Dr. Ajantha Perera urges the Government to expedite the process of obtaining compensation for the MV X-Press Pearl disaster.

Speaking to media while protesting at the Bambalapitiya beach, Dr. Perera alleged that the Government has failed to obtain proper compensation for the incident so far.

Furthermore, Dr. Perera stated that she had filed a case in the Supreme Court, however the case has not been taken up yet as the Company which owns the wrecked ship is the entity that decides on the date. 

Emphasizing that Sri Lanka can gain around Rs. 5 billion in compensation, Dr. Perera requested the Supreme Court to take up the case soon.
