One person missing after car falls into Mahawelia River; Massive search op underway

COLOMBO (News 1st); A massive search operation is underway to locate one person who is reported missing, after a car fell into the Mahaweli River, from Ilukmodara in Kandy on Saturday (27) night.

Sri Lanka Police said that car was travelling along the Kandy - Gurudeniya Road and the driver had lost control of the wheel when the incident took place.

Two other people who were travelling in the car were rescued and rushed to hospital for treatment, said the Police Spokesperson, adding that the car is also missing.

The Sri Lanka Police Life Saving Unit and the Sri Lanka Navy are conducting search operations.
