COLOMBO (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says that Sri Lanka will have to make a number of unpopular decisions in the future, to win challenges posed against the country on a global economic level. Expressing his views at the 24th Presidential Export Awards held yesterday (26), the President stated that in the midst of the pandemic, Government expenses have also increased, however the Government itself took steps to provide the impoverished in the country with dry rations during the lockdown period. Speaking further on Sri Lanka's economic situation, the President stated that short-term policy decisions are necessary to improve the economic condition of Sri Lanka in the post-COVID-19 era. Stating that interventions are necessary to solve the economic crisis, President Rajapaksa also said that although not many would favor such interventions, decisions such as the limiting of importations that was taken resulted in positive outcomes for Sri Lanka.
