COLOMBO (News 1st): The price of Chicken has increased in the local market. The increase in price is due to the rising prices of poultry feed and the shortage of food, Ajith Gunasekara, the President of the All Island Poultry Association told News 1st on Saturday (Nov. 27). "With the increasing prices of vegetables, the demand for Chicken has risen and the supply was not sufficient to meet the local demand, leading to an increase in the price of Chicken," he noted. When News 1st inquired on the matter with State Minister of Livestock, Farm Promotion and Dairy & Egg Related Industries, D. B. Herath, he said concessions should be provided for the poultry industry for the relevant importations, in order to prevent the increasing prices. However, the State Minister noted that in the prevailing competitive market, the prices of Chicken and Eggs cannot be reduced at present.
