COLOMBO (News 1st); Consumer Rights Activist Asela Sampath alleges that a suspicion exists whether the Government is creating an irrational fear of gas cylinders to decrease the gas queues.

The Chairman of the United Association of Self-Employed Traders Pradeep Charles stated that a complaint regarding this issue was lodged previously at the CID in April, however the CID has refused to take up the complaint, instead stating that the issue should be taken up with the Consumer Affairs Authority.

Several cases of gas cylinder explosions were seen taking place during the last month in the country, whilst Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today (27) took steps to call for a Parliamentary Select Committee to probe the matter.
