Amber alert for heavy rains, severe lightning issued

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued an Amber alert for Severe Lightning and Heavy Rain for today (27) and tomorrow (28).

Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning and heavy rain about 100 mm are likely to occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, North-western and Uva Provinces.

Moreover, there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, and the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
