Subsidy to be granted to only those who continue to use organic fertilizer

COLOMBO (News 1st); State Minister Kanaka Herath says that a subsidy will be provided to farmers who continue to do 100% of their agricultural activities with the use of organic fertilizer. Speaking to media, the State Minister said that although private entities were allowed to import chemical fertilizer, the Government's Policy on organic fertilizer remains unchanged. Accordingly, he added that the permission to import chemical fertilizer was granted understanding the necessity of the farmers for chemical fertilizer, however the subsidy will only granted to farmers who continue to conduct their agricultural activities with the use of organic fertilizer.
