Registrar of Pesticides faces disciplinary probe for lifting glyphosate ban

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Agriculture, Mahindananda Aluthgamage says disciplinary action will be taken against the Registrar of Pesticides for lifting the Glyphosate Ban, violating the government policy.

An Extraordinary Gazette was issued by Registrar of Pesticides, J.A. Sumith revoking the gazette issued in December 2014, prohibiting the use and sale of five types of compounds including Glyphosate.

The Gazette was issued under the Control of Pesticides Act, No. 33 of 1980.

On the 22nd of December 2014, an Extraordinary Gazette was issued imposing a ban on the use, sale, and offer for sale of Pesticides - Glyphosate, Propanil, Carbaryl, Cholopyrifos, and Carbofuran.
