Ministries inconsistent on Gas & Milk powder shortage

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Consumer Protection says the importation of Gas and Milk Powder has been disrupted due to the US dollar crisis. Secretary to the Ministry of Consumer Protection, K.D.S. Ruwan Chandra says that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka should intervene to resolve this situation. He points out that this crisis has arisen due to the lack of foreign exchange in the country. Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance S.R. Attygalle said that this situation has not arisen due to the shortage of dollars. When inquired on the matter, Attygalle said the shortage of Gas will be rectified soon as a shipment of Gas has arrived in the country. Finance Secretary S.R. Attygalle further noted the main Milk Powder supplier to the country has also informed that there are sufficient stocks of Milk Powder required to meet the local demand in the country.
