Administration of booster doses from today; Guidelines issued

COLOMBO (News 1st); The booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to those over the age of 60-years, from today (17). The State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals, Prof. Channa Jayasumana said that the third dose will be given to those over the age of 60-years, who have completed three months since receiving the second dose. He noted that several areas in the Western and Southern Provinces and several areas in eight districts, including Anuradhapura and Ampara where the highest number of COVID patients were reported in the recent days- have been selected for the administration of the third dose. Prof. Jayasumana added that the Pfizer vaccine will be administered as the third dose regardless of the vaccine which was administered as the 1st and 2nd doses.
