COLOMBO (News 1st); State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana says that the effectiveness of some of the world’s leading COVID-19 vaccines has declined sharply in the last six months.

Citing world renowned Science journals, which includes the results of research conducted in the United States on the effectiveness of vaccines, the State Minister said that the efficacy of certain vaccines are on the decline.

Which vaccines have been found to be less effective?

“According to this research, the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine has dropped from 89% in March to 58% today. At the same time, the efficacy of the Moderna vaccine has dropped from 87% in March to 43%. Also, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has 86% efficacy, which has been reduced to 13%. ”

The State Minister also urges the people to follow the proper health guidelines and be more careful.

Emphasizing that Sri Lanks does not want to have another bad COVID-19 situation in December, the State Ministe stressed the importance of wearing face masks and keeping the proper social distance even though restrictions are lifted.

” The point is to be careful. Because we are paying attention to the trends in the world, this research shows that this December is not going to be a good one. ” he added.
