COLOMBO (News 1st); Protests do not mean that there are any crises in the country at present, said State Minister of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness, Nalaka Godahewa on Thursday (4).
The State Minister said that protests are simply a way of exercising democracy in a country.
Citing examples of protests which took place during the previous Government’s tenures, Godahewa said that such protests which took place earlier were suppressed by Governments, however, this Government is not taking any such steps.
He further stated that shortages are simply the results of the impact of COVID-19 in the country, and these shortages will eventually be resolved via the development plan of the Government.
