COLOMBO (News 1st); The Catholic Bishop’s Conference in Sri Lanka has called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to withdraw the Gazette declaring the appointment of a residential Task Force on “One Country, One Law”.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference in Sri Lanka points out that the Task Force, which was appointed without consulting the legally elected Parliament, has deprived an opportunity to study and implement the objective of "One Country, One Law" due to the appointment of the Task Force itself.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference in Sri Lanka has highlighted concern to the fact that the appointment of the Chair of the Task Force was made without considering the past records of the person who was appointed as chair.

It added that inequality had arisen due to the fact that there is no representation from the Tamil, Hindu and Catholic, and Christian minority groups.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference in Sri Lanka issued a statement calling for the repeal of the gazette notification, and to ensure that all citizens are treated equally before the law.
