COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center has warned that multiple roads in the Central Hills remain inundated due to torrential downpours experienced in those areas.
DMC Badulla District Assistant Director M. Udaya Kumara speaking to News 1st said the collapsing earth embankments between Ella and Namunukula pose a serious threat.
In addition, the water levels in the Badulu Oya are also rising due to heavy rains.
Video obtained by News 1st showed rising floodwaters, while locals scramble for safety.
The Met Department said that a low-pressure area is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and under the influence of this system, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in most parts of the island.
Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places.
