Large frauds are taking place & are going unnoticed, alleges Handunnetti

COLOMBO (News 1st); Large frauds are now being undermined and are taking place in a clandestine manner, said JVPs Sunil Handunnetti.

"It can be stated the the nano nitrogen fertilizer that was imported to the country at haste, was done in violation of the cabinet paper in question," said Handunnetti.

Stating that the local agent of the Indian company, which is a private company, has transferred the payment approved by the Treasury through People's bank, Handunetti said that if this importation was done as a transaction between two Governments, it should be done through a State company.

Stating that JVP MP Vijita Herath revealed at the Parliament that state fertilizer companies were not involved in the transaction, Handunetti said that the funds were deposited into an account under the names of Mohan.T. Perera and G. Weerasinghe.

" Before this, there were two accounts in the People's bank, as mobile accounts for the private company. If they are local agents of the Indian company there must be an account for international transactions. They have opened an account for international transactions on the 18th of October. On the same day in the evening, the funds were transferred from the Treasury. A private company cannot transfer funds when it comes to a State transaction, " He said.

Emphasizing that the Minister has requested that this transaction be done by the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company through the cabinet proposal, Handunetti said that the transactions were done through the local agent of the Indian company.

Because of these deals, the money of the people are being mismanaged. These large scale frauds are now taking place in undisclosed ways, he added.
