COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said disciplinary action was taken against a Police Sub-Inspector who fired into the air in Kuppiyawatte, Kadawatha.
Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa speaking to News 1st said an altercation had taken place between two groups in Kuppiyawatte and one person from injured in the brawl and hospitalized.
Following the incident, a police team led by the Sub-Inspector had visited the area to arrest the person responsible for the assault.
However, relatives of the suspect had obstructed the police from making the arrest and in order to control the situation, the Sub-Inspector had fired into the sky.
The suspect was eventually arrested by the police officers.
The Police Spokesperson said the Sub-Inspector had carried out his duties accordingly, however, he is subject to disciplinary action as he failed to report about shooting into the sky, to the police sation.
