COLOMBO (News 1st); The launch of the book 'Kadathurawa' containing works of visually impaired people, was held at the Temple Trees on Friday (15th September) under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to coincide with the International White Cane Safety Day celebrations.
As the usual yearly White Cane Walk and celebrations were cancelled due to Covid this year, the Visually Impaired Rehabilitation Trust Fund organized an island wide short story and poetry composition competition of visually impaired authors.
The book 'Kadathurawa' containing the selected finest of such creations was presented to the Prime Minister by Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Minister of State for Health, Epidemiology and Epidemiology.
The Prime Minister presented a white cane to Sugath Wasantha de Silva, Chairman of the Board of Visually Impaired Graduates, symbolizing the International White Cane Safety Day.
