COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police request the public not to engage in any pilgrimages or leisure trips during the upcoming long weekend, adding the extended Inter-Province Travel Restrictions will be strictly enforced. Issuing a release, the Police says that a new mechanism has been set up to check whether the public is engaging in inter-provincial travel, and all vehicles at the entry points and exit points of all Provinces will be thoroughly checked. Moreover, the Police also states that number plates of vehicles at religious places, beaches and at other public places will be checked to identify vehicles which have arrived from other Provinces. Meanwhile, the Police adds that by complying with the said regulations, the public will be able to avoid any inconvenience. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the security forces to strictly enforce the inter-province travel restrictions during the extended weekend. The decision was made at the COVID-19 Prevention Committee meeting held on Friday (15) morning.
