Singapore yet to respond to Mahendran's extradition request - AG

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Attorney General informed the Western Province Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar that the case filed over the 2015 Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam will proceed in the absence of fugitive Ex-Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and 10th suspect in the case Ajahn Gardiya Punchihewa.

The Attorney General had filed this case against 10 suspects over the Bond Scam involving the Treasury Bond Auction on the 27th of February 2015 for causing a loss of Rs. 688 million to the government of Sri Lanka and several other charges.

Senior Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Nawana appearing in court said the Singapore Government is yet to respond positively to the request made by the Sri Lankan Government to secure the extradition of 1st accused Arjuna Mahendran, who is living in Singapore.

He said the court would be informed of the necessary future steps over the matter via a motion.

In addition, Justices Champa Janaki Rajaratne and Damith Thotawatte rejected an application made by counsel for Director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited Ranjan Hulugalle, the 8th suspect in the case, to travel to the US for treatment.
