COLOMBO (News 1st); The worst agricultural tragedy of the country is happening now, said former President Maithripala Sirisena on Sunday (10).
Speaking at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Headquarters to commemorate the 21st death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike the Former President said that with the ongoing food crisis and the fertilizer crisis, the farmer is renderd helpless.
Pointing out that the worst agricultural tragedy in the history of the country is happening now, he said that he does not know whether he would even be accepted in Polonnaruwa, if he visits there in due course.
With the pressure on farmers right now, they have become more aggressive, the Former President who is also the present Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party said.
The former President also urged the Government to visit the village, and to have a discourse with the public.
