STF arrests man for illegal possession of explosive material

COLOMBO (News 1st); Intelligence Officers of the Police Task Force arrested a 39-year-old man from Meerigama for the possession of explosive material.

The Special Task Force said it received a tip about the material and conducted a raid on Saturday (9) leading to the discovery of explosive material that was stored illegally.

Investigations revealed the suspect had produced the material by producing forged documents and was in the business of selling the explosive material to various criminals.

81 Water Gel sticks ( 130 g each), 75 kg of Ammonia Nitrate,107 non-electric detonators and 360 m of service string was discovered from the possession of the suspect.

Police are conducting further investigations.
