COLOMBO (News 1st); Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake questions whether the Government has saved any funds from delaying the elections.
C0mmenting on the Provincial Council Elections after an event in Bandaragama, Attanayake said that public representatives must be appointed to manage the money allocated for Provincial Council activities.
The MP noted that while Provicial Councils continue to operate and the officers remain the same, the only missing element are the councilors.
He further stated that the expenses for councilors is only a fraction of the total expenses of the Provincial Council and that the Treasury of the Government still bears all the expenses of the Provincial Councils.
" We think that public representatives must be appointed to manage the money allocated for Provincial activities. If the public representatives appointed to oversee these matters are not doing their job and instead influencing officials and carrying out other agendas, that is a mistake." He said.
