Namal appointed President of Sri Lanka - France Parliamentary Friendship Association

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Minister of Youth and Sports, Namal Rajapaksa has been appointed as the President of the Sri Lanka - France Parliamentary Friendship Association. The Parliamentary Communications Unit said that an event was held at the Parliament yesterday (06) commemorating the incident, which was attended by the Speaker, General Secretary of the Parliament, Dhammika Dassanayake, and the Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka, Eric Lavertu. MP Isuru Dodamgoda was appointed as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka - France Parliamentary Friendship Association, while the MPs Wasantha Yapa Bandara, Charles Nirmalanathan, and Selvam Adekkalanathan were appointed as Co-Presidents of the association. The Speaker Mahinda Yapa Bandara emphasized the importance of the relations between France and Sri Lanka, stating that France was one of the first countries to develop diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka after it gained independence, in addition to the fact that both countries are dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and taking action with regard to climate change. Minister Rajapaksa also pointed out that he expects the relations between the two countries to develop further under his Presidency of the Sri Lanka - France Parliamentary Friendship Association, whilst emphasizing the tourism sector as one of the sectors he expects to develop under his Presidency.
