20,000 landslide prone areas identified: NBRO

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says that around 20,000 landslide prone areas have been identified across the island. Director of Landslide Research, Dr. Gamini Jayatissa says that steps to evacuate 15,000 families from those areas are currently underway. Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department forecasts that a few showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts today (07). Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Eastern, Uva and Northern Provinces during the afternoon or night as well.
