Over 55% of eligible population jabbed with first dose

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health says that under the COVID-19 vaccination drive in Sri Lanka, the 1st dose of the jab has been administered to over 55% of the eligible population. Deputy Director-General of Public Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said that in certain districts, the 1st dose has been administered to more than 80% of the population, with the highest percentage of over 82% recorded from the Mullaitivu District. In the Matale District, 72% of the eligible population has obtained the first dose while in the Mannar District, 67% of the population has received the first dose. The lowest rate of vaccination is recorded from Batticaloa District, which is 28%. According to Dr. Herath, a decision has not yet been taken on lifting the inter-Provincial travel restrictions after 16 October. He said a final decision in this regard will be taken upon analyzing the situation at the time.
