Petitions against Premalal's death sentence to be debated in November

COLOMBO (News 1st); The applications filed by Ratnapura District MP Premalal Jayasekera and two others against their death sentences, will be taken up for debate at the Court of Appeal on the 25th of November.

The applications were called up in the presence of Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and R. Gurusinghe on Monday (4).

On the 31st of August 2020, Premalal Jayasekara alias ‘Choka Malli’ and two others who were found guilty of shooting to death a person and critically injuring two others during the 2015 Presidential Election campaign were sentenced to death by the Ratnapura High Court.

The trio filed the applications with the Court of Appeal seeking that the order be canceled and they be acquitted and released from all indictments.
