COLOMBO (News 1st); The Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance, MP Mano Ganeshan says that the Minister of Ports and Shipping, Rohitha Abeygunawardena has to take responsibility for allegations levelled against the Government of selling national resources.
The MP said this during a meeting with the Petroleum, Ports and Electricity Trade Unions of Sri Lanka, today (03).
Ranjan Jayalal, the Convener of the CEB United Trade Union Alliance said that it is a fight which belongs to all persons in the country, and not only a struggle that should be waged by port workers and CEB employees.
"We are asking Government to respect the public opinion of this country. The Government has no moral right to sell this great national resource to foreign countries after 6.9 million voted for them. We assure you that no matter what pressure is exerted, we will defeat the efforts of this Government." he said.
Meanwhile, Samika Sithanja, the Chairman of the Petroleum Branch of the National Employees Union requested the Government to stop the large scale looting, and to go according to the proposed 'vision of prosperity'.
Moreover, Niroshan Gorakanage the General Secretary of the All Ceylon Ports General Employees Union said that the unions are ready to challenge Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena to an open debate about the selling of the port.
