Buses carrying passengers in excess to be taken into custody

COLOMBO(News 1st) ; Buses carrying passengers in excess of the number of seats will be taken into Police custody, the State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama says. He said that these steps will be taken in addition to suspending the licenses of such buses. The State Minister added that the IGP has also been informed in this regard. Meanwhile, he said that although about 6,000 private buses were supposed to run in the Western Province yesterday (02), only 900 buses have in operation for the time period. Meanwhile, although 3,000 SLTB buses are ready to be in operation, only 1,500 buses will be allowed to be in operation, the state minister said.
