COLOMBO (News 1st); A decision has been reached to cultivate Rubber across 1,000 hectares of deforested land in the Moneragala District, which comes under the purview of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
The Director-General at the Rubber Development Department, Madhawa Waranakulasuriya said the first phase of the program is currently underway at the Bibila, Medagama and Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariats.
According to Waranakulasuriya, Rubber can be used to increase the forest cover in these areas.
Moreover, he said that these lands will be allocated to lease basis for Rubber cultivation.
