COLOMBO (News 1st); A group of Sri Lankan fishermen rescued four Somalian fishermen who were lost at sea for almost four months.
Two Multi-Day fishing vessels that set out to sea from the Beruwal Fisheries Harbour in early September had come across the stranded Somalians in the Northern Seas.
Thereafter, the two vessels had boarded two Somalis each and returned to Sri Lanka.
“They were drifting away in the Northern Seas,” said D. B. Jayaweera one of the Sri Lankan skippers.
The Somalis were accommodated in the Multi-Day Fishing Vessels for approximately 25 days before they were brought ashore.
According to the Sri Lankan Fishermen, the Somali had survived by eating dead sea animals, including turtles.
The Somalian fishermen will be held by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and will be subject to PCR tests before they are released.
