COLOMBO (News 1st); The Re-entry ban imposed on Sri Lankan nationals is lifted with effect from September 20, 2021, said the Japanese Embassy in Colombo.

Those who have a valid re-entry permit with a valid visa of any category is eligible for this measure, it added noting that all other border restrictions imposed due to Covid 19 pandemic will remain the same.

The Japanese Embassy went on to note that the issuance of a visa is suspended until further notice unless there are special exceptional circumstances.

Q & A with regard to the revised re-entry ban
Q. Who can enter to Japan with the lifted re-entry ban?
A. Those who have a valid re-entry permit and a valid visa (residence card) can re enter to Japan.
Q. What is the procedure when the visa (residence card) is expired?
A. Contact the Regional Immigration Service Bureau in Japan for the details when the residence card is expired. Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka will not be able to extend or renew the residence cards issued in Japan.
Q. What is the procedure when the re-entry permit is expired?
A. Contact the Regional Immigration Service Bureau in Japan and obtain a new Certificate of Eligibility (COE) when the re-entry permit is expired
Q. What is the procedure when there is no one to apply the COE in Japan while re-entry permit is expired?
A. When there is no representative to apply the COE in Japan contact the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka for details.
