Accident victim dumped in jungle en route to hospital

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 53-year-old man who was injured after he was knocked down by a van in Anamaduwa, was dumped in a jungle, under the pretext that he was being taken to the hospital.

The injured man was located 06 hours after the accident.

According to reports, the father of three was knocked down by a van plying from Anamaduwa to Puttlam when he was returning home from his paddy field.

The driver of the van had immediately taken him inside promising to take him to the hospital for treatment.

However, when relatives of the injured man started making inquiries, the hospital said such a person was never admitted, and the relatives had immediately notified the police.

Police launched an investigation based on the photographs of the accident, taken by the relatives.

Later it was revealed the suspect had obtained the van on lease and he was traced after police was provided with information on his whereabouts by the owner of the van.
