COLOMBO (News 1st); Multiple Trade Unions have decided to come together against attempts being made to hand over the port property to Chinese companies.

General Secretary of the All Ceylon General Port Employee Union, Niroshan Gorakanage told reporters that 13 acres owned by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is to be given to the CICT.

One perch in this area is valued at Rs. 50 Million and no valuation has been carried out so far, he alleged.

The Trade Union activist also went on to note that no tender process has been followed with regard to this alleged hand-over of lands.

"The lease will only generate Rs. 850,000/- per month to the SLPA," he said adding all trade unions, irrespective of their party affiliations, have decided to voice against this move.
