COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government Medical Officers Association says the COVID-19 virus is spreading rapidly among the children, with around 180 children confirmed to have contracted the virus, across the country. GMOA Spokesperson, Dr. Samantha Ananda said, during a discussion, the President has granted the authority to the Ministry of Health to take the necessary technical decisions stating that if the Health Ministry grants the approval, the vaccines can be administered to children without any hindrance. According to Dr. Samantha Ananda, the meeting was attended by Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena who stated that Sri Lanka will receive around FOUR million doses of the Pfizer vaccines by October. Thereby, Dr. Samantha Ananda noted that once the Pfizer Vaccines required to inoculate the children aged between 12 to 18 are obtained, the children could be protected from the COVID-19 virus adding that it could also facilitate the re-opening of schools. According to the GMOA, around 25 deaths have so far been confirmed due to COVID-19 among children and around four patients are in critical condition at present.
