UPFA to be revived, hints SLPF Senior Member

COLOMBO (News 1st) Senior Deputy Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said the SLFP Central Committee had recently decided on reactivating the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the Podujana Eksath Peramuna.

Speaking in Kandy on Tuesday (31st August), he said the alliance will be formed with all Leftist, Patriotic, and Nationalists Political Parties as well as with all Progressive Parties that are not represented in Parliament.

"This does not mean there will be a split from the ruling coalition party. That coalition has never met despite signing an accord," he said adding none of the affiliated parties sat down for any meeting following the elections.
