COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Environment states that a Cabinet paper will be submitted to the Cabinet today (30) to ban 07 single use plastic and polythene related products.
This was stated by the Minister in charge of the subject Mahinda Amaraweera.
The items to be banned include plastic drinking straws, spoons, drinking cups, forks, knives, string hoppers and garlands made of plastic and polythene.
Since March 31, five single-use plastics and polythene products, including sachets, have been banned.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Environment states that steps have been taken to ban non-perishable lunch sheets from August 01.
