COLOMBO (News 1st): The 300,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine received today as a donation from the Chinese People's Liberation Army will be administered to Sri Lankan Armed Forces and the relatives of ex-servicemen and their families, Secretary of Defense Kamal Gunaratne says.
Retired Secretary General of Defense Kamal Gunaratne expressed these views while accepting consignment of vaccines.
He added that the consignment of vaccines were received according to a request made to the Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe, during his official visit to Sri Lanka in April this year.
“Since a greater number of service personnel have been vaccinated as of now, the general public could also be facilitated using the balance amount”, he pledged.
Meanwhile, Gen. Gunaratne extended his gratitude to the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Chinese Ministry of National Defence and the Defence Minister for the timely supportive measure.
Recalling the remarkable long standing relationship maintained by the two countries, Chinese Defence Attaché in Sri Lanka Senior Colonel Wan Dong said “Chinese people won’t hesitate to extend their supportive hands in difficult times for Sri Lankans”.
