COLOMBO (News 1st); Multiple health trade unions staged a silent protest on Wednesday (18) demanding the government lockdown the country.
The silent protests took place in Colombo, Kandy & Galle.
Trade Union leader Saman Ratnapriya alleged over 1,000 nurses in the country have tested positive for COVID-19 as clusters are formed inside hospitals.
'Around 5,000 health workers have tested positive for COVID-19,' he said.
Ravi Kumudesh, another trade union leader in the health sector said 10 areas that need to be placed under lockdown have been listed and submitted to the government.
On Tuesday (17), Trade Unions warned that if the government does not reach a decision to go for a lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by Friday (20), all trade unions in the country will move into self-isolation.
