JVP member fined for protesting against KDU bill

COLOMBO (News 1st): Ashoka Ranwala, a JVP member was fined Rs. 5,000 by the Court after he pleaded guilty for obstructing the road near the Colombo Municipal Council grounds and engaging in a protest campaign against the proposed Kotelawala Defence University Bill. The case was filed by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate S. Prabhakaran today (17). Ranwala stated that authorities should understand the meaning and purpose behind the struggle of the people and address those issues for the protests to stop.
