Principal indictment filed against April Attacks

AG files principal indictment against 25 accused in April Attacks; Requests CJ to appoint Trial-at-Bar

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Attorney General has filed the principal indictment in respect of the 2019 April 21st Attacks, at the Colombo High Court on Tuesday (10).

The indictment was filed against 25 accused including Naufer Maulavi, Sajid Maulavi, Mohammed Milhan, Sadik Abdullah, Adam Lebbe alias Gafoor Mama, Mohamed Sanasdeen and Mohammed Rizwan.

The indictment was filed in relation to the eight attacks on St Anthony's Church in Kochchikade, St Sebastian's Church in Katuwapitiya, The Kingsbury Hotel, Shangri-La Colombo, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Zion Church in Batticaloa and Tropical Inn in Dehiwala.

Upon filing the indictment, the Attorney General requested the Chief Justice to appoint a trial-at-bar to hear and determine the 23,270 charges filed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act including charges of conspiracy, preparation, aiding and abetting, collection of explosives and weapons, murder and attempted murder.

In compiling the charges, the team of officers have taken into consideration each and every individual who either lost their lives or suffered injuries.
