COLOMBO (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the health sector to provide the necessary facilities for all above the age of 30 to obtain the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from any vaccination center designated for the administration of the second dose of the vaccine.
The President’s Media Division said the government had procured vaccines so that all above the age of 18 in Sri Lanka can be provided with both doses of the vaccine, before September.
The Government is also prepared to provide a third vaccine dose as well, said the statement.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had advised the heads in the health sector to ensure that patients who visit a hospital with symptoms for COVID-19 are not inconvenienced.
The PMD said there is an influx in the number of patients with COVID-19 symptoms visiting hospitals in Colombo and other key cities daily and the President had noted that these patients should not be inconvenienced even when they are being diagnosed.
The President’s Media Division said Intermediate Care Centers were established in every major city in the country and in the event of an emergency situation, those facilities can be used for COVID-19 treatment.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had stressed the need to first move patients with symptoms to ICCs and then based on the situation to hospitalize the patients.
According to the President’s Media Division, 120 protests had taken place across the country last month with over 1500 people in attendance for each protest.
Intelligence Units have pointed out that public assembly defying COVID guidelines was a cause for the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
