Protests continue against KDU bill

COLOMBO (News1st): Protests were held in several locations against the proposed Sir John Kotelawala National Defence University Bill. A demonstration organized by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was held at Town Hall in Colombo today. "We have achieved certain victories in our struggle to protect free education," Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader said. "We are happy to note that the debate scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled by the government. They have cancelled it twice. This is a good sign.". The People's Movement against the Militarization of Education organized a protest at the Lipton Roundabout in Colombo today. 64 unions representing students and university lecturers participated in the protest. Protests were also held in Ambalantota, Batticaloa and Hatton today.
