COLOMBO (News 1st): The construction of a new Ward Complex at the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital which commenced in March this year was completed and handed over to the Minister of Health, Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi on Tuesday (03) by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana.

The completed project which handed over today consists of five (05) 100 x 30 foot Wards complete with a 20 x 20 foot Wash Room Complex for each ward.

This new complex has a capacity of 160 patients at a given time and also has accommodation for the medical staff serving in the wards as well.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Health expressed her heart felt gratitude to the Commander and the SLAF troops for taking up the challenge and completing the project within a very short time.

She also emphasized the fact that the initial estimate for the project had been 200 Million Rupees and that due to the dedication and commitment of the SLAF the actual expenditure was only 35 Million Rupees there by making a saving of 165 Million Rupees.

The construction was carried out under the guidance of the Directorate of Civil Engineering by troops from the Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake.

The Director Health Services of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera and the Acting Director Civil Engineering, Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe also participated for today’s ceremony along with the troops who were involved in this construction project.
